History
POWER, Inc. (People-Organized-Working-Evolving-Reaching) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 Community Development Corporation designed to serve the Washtenaw County community. POWER was encorporated in 1996 in fulfillment of the Christian Love Fellowship Ministries International (CLFMI) vision. Apostle Robert Hill shared this vision, with POWER's founders Denese Brown, MSW and John Wallace, Ph.D., to establish a Christian community that is Christ sufficient in all areas of living: spiritual, social, economic and educational.
Kehli Woodruff became the first administrator of POWER, Inc. We started with an interim board of 6 members (John Wallace, Jimmy Stegall, Debby Mitchell, Victor Hicks, Sylvia Spikes & Denese Brown). Kehli established a foundation for long-term strategic planning and developed a quality-training program. In late 1998, Denese Brown, who has over 20 years of human services experience, became the Executive Director. Carol Burrell-Jackson, ACSW serves as the Clinical Director for counseling services.
POWER has an active and committed volunteer Board of Directors, which consist of 12 members with a wide range of expertise. We are fortunate to have such a multi-talented group of professionals that believe in the holistic mission of our organization. In May 2001, POWER acquired Under the Rainbow of Love Learning Center a daycare center for children ages 2 mos. -4 yrs.
